    Wines From Chile

Unearth the Vinous Gems of Chile with Drinks House 247

Chile, with its unique geography and climatic diversity, crafts wines of unmistakable character. From the sunlit plains of Maipo Valley to the cool ocean breezes of Casablanca, our Chilean wine collection paints a vivid picture of the country's vinicultural richness. Journey with us through the Andean vineyards and coastal terrains.

    A Guide to Chilean Wine

Chile is a long, narrow country squeezed between the Andes and the Pacific. Cold ocean currents and mountain air cool the vineyards, while sunny days ripen the grapes fully, giving ripe, pure wines at every price.

    Regions to know

    • Maipo Valley: near Santiago, Chile's classic home of Cabernet Sauvignon. Viñedo Chadwick comes from a single vineyard in Puente Alto, one of its finest sites.
    • Aconcagua Valley: further north, home to Seña, a Bordeaux-style blend created by Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi.
    • Coastal valleys: such as Casablanca and Aconcagua Costa, cooled by the Pacific, ideal for crisp Sauvignon Blanc like Errázuriz Aconcagua Costa.

    Chile's icon wines

In 2004, at the famous Berlin Tasting, Viñedo Chadwick and Seña were placed ahead of top Bordeaux first growths in a blind tasting. Today they are among South America's most collected wines.

    Carmenère

Once a Bordeaux grape, Carmenère was rediscovered in Chile in 1994, hidden among Merlot vines. It is now Chile's signature red, soft and peppery.

    Serving and pairing

Serve reds at 16–18°C. Casillero del Diablo Cabernet suits burgers and barbecue; the icon wines deserve roast beef or lamb, and a decanter. Serve Sauvignon Blanc at 8–10°C with ceviche, seafood or salads.
