Whisky from Taiwan — really?
Really. Kavalan has been beating Scottish single malts in blind competition since 2010, and Concertmaster took Best in Class at the IWSC. It is now one of the most awarded distilleries in the world, from a country that had no whisky industry twenty years ago.
Why is there no age statement?
Because age would mislead. In Yilan's heat the spirit matures several times faster than in Scotland, losing up to 15% a year to evaporation. A four-year-old Kavalan has more cask character than most teenaged Scotch.
What does the Port finish do?
It layers in dense red fruit — cherry, blackcurrant, a little raisin — over the tropical mango and coconut the base spirit already carries. Three different Port cask types are used, which is why the fruit reads as complex rather than one-note.
Who is this a good gift for?
