In 1828, Pierre-Roger de Pol-Roger established his first champagne house at Château Hautvillers near Épernay. He named his new venture after himself, calling it “Pol Roger” (meaning “son of Roger”). His son, Henri-Louis de Pol Roger, took over the business in 1847.
Pierre-Pol Roger founded his own champagne house in Epernay, France. He was inspired by the success of other French houses, such as Ruinart and Moët & Chandon, who were producing sparkling wines at the time. His goal was to make a wine with more finesse than those produced by other houses.
To achieve this, he used grapes grown in the Champagne region, where the climate is ideal for growing grapes. He also developed new methods for making the wine, including using oak barrels instead of wooden casks.
Aromas of pear, mango and honeysuckle, with ripe and developed flavours of quince, apricot and toasty brioche. The richness is balanced by a crisp, refreshing acidity.
