Is this a good whisky for someone new to single malt?
Yes. The 15 Double Cask is rich and sweet rather than smoky or medicinal, which makes it far more approachable than a peated Islay malt. It is also a name most people recognise, which matters in a gift.
Should it be drunk neat?
Neat first, then a few drops of still water if you want to open it up. Water lifts the dried fruit and softens the alcohol. Ice mutes it — fine if that is how they like it, but try it without.
Why pair whisky with chocolate?
Sherried malt and dark chocolate share the same dried-fruit and cocoa register, so they amplify each other rather than compete. The roasted almonds add salt and fat, which soften the spirit’s edge.
