Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2019 Pauillac 5ème Grand Cru Classé – a magnificent, powerful vintage from one of Pauillac's most consistent and classic estates. Situated west of Pauillac on exceptional coarse gravel-limestone soils that provide superb drainage and heat retention, the vineyard benefits from hand-picked grapes (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc; average vine age ~38 years). The 2019 blend is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant, with ~3 weeks maceration followed by 16–18 months ageing in French oak barrels (75% new), yielding a concentrated, structured wine with signature Pauillac typicity and outstanding ageing potential.
Inky, glass-staining damson colour with slow-building, enjoyable aromatics of violet, peony, black fruits, pencil lead, cloves, liquorice, and cocoa bean. The palate is muscular yet tempered—knitted-down tannins form a firm wall around concentrated dark fruit core, with waves of floral lift, spice, graphite minerality, and cocoa depth, leading to a long, powerful, aromatic finish. A benchmark 2019 Pauillac: rich, serious, and elegant. Pairs superbly with veal, pork, beef, lamb, or game. Drink from 2025/2026 to 2045+.
