Most white rum is unaged or barely aged. Planas is not: Diplomático ages it for approximately six years in oak barrels, building genuine complexity, depth and texture, then puts it through meticulous charcoal filtration to strip the colour back out and return it to crystal clarity.
What survives the filtration is the flavour. At 47% ABV this carries intense layers of vanilla, tropical fruit, subtle spice, toasted oak and creamy caramel over a smooth, velvety mouthfeel — the character of an aged rum in a format that behaves like a white. It has become a bartender’s favourite for exactly that reason.
Serve with: a Mojito, Daiquiri, Piña Colada or Rum Old Fashioned — or neat over ice, which few white rums can carry.
