What does "pure single rum" actually mean?
It is the rum world's equivalent of single malt: 100% pot-still rum from one distillery, with no column-still spirit blended in and nothing added afterwards. Very few estates anywhere still make rum this way — Hampden is the most famous of them.
What is Jamaican "funk"?
The nickname for the intense, fruity, almost solvent-like aroma created by long wild fermentation and high ester counts. In Hampden it reads as pineapple, overripe banana and tropical blossom. It is the most distinctive flavour in rum, and the reason this distillery has a cult following.
Only three years old — is that young?
Not in the tropics. Jamaican heat drives evaporation and extraction several times faster than a Scottish warehouse, so three tropical years deliver a depth of colour and oak you would expect from a far older cool-climate spirit.
Is the charitable donation real?
Yes — £6 from every bottle sold during 2026 goes to relief efforts supporting Jamaica's recovery from storm Melissa. It is one of the rare bottles where the story on the label continues after you buy it.
