The Wine

Domaine Evremond is the collaboration between Champagne Taittinger and UK partners Hatch Mansfield, and this Classic Cuvée Brut Edition 1 is its inaugural release — one of the most anticipated debuts English wine has seen. The estate sits at Chilham in Kent, 69 hectares of south-facing slopes on chalky, free-draining soils that closely mirror the best of Champagne, planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. It takes its name from Charles de Saint-Évremond, the 17th-century Frenchman who championed Champagne to English drinkers.

Edition 1 blends 55% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 10% Meunier, on a 2020 base vintage with 25% reserve wines from 2018 and 2019. It was fermented and matured in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation for freshness and elegance, then spent over three years on lees before disgorgement in August 2024 at a low 7 g/L dosage.
