Chardonnay · Pre-Mixed Case · Twelve Bottles · Four Wines
Twelve bottles of Chardonnay, three each of four wines — three from Burgundy, one from California. The same grape, grown four ways, so you can taste exactly what place does to it.
Chardonnay is the most planted fine-wine grape in the world and the most misunderstood. On its own it is close to neutral — it has no loud signature the way Sauvignon Blanc or Riesling do. What it has instead is transparency: it takes on the character of the ground it grows in and the way it is handled in the cellar. That is why the same grape can give you something lean and chalky in one village and something golden and buttery three thousand miles away.
This case puts that side by side. Three Burgundies, where Chardonnay is grown on limestone and usually kept away from heavy oak, and one Californian Reserve, barrel-aged and ripe. Three bottles of each means you can open one, learn something, and still have two left.
A Puligny-Montrachet domaine of about fifteen hectares. This is their straight Bourgogne — the same hands that make the village wine, at a fraction of the price.
A Beaune-based grower partnership drawing on the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. Stainless steel, aged on its lees. Pear and white peach.
From Lugny in the Mâconnais, southern Burgundy, where Chardonnay ripens more fully. Hazelnut, acacia and honey over citrus, with a faintly spiced finish.
Santa Barbara County, barrel-aged in French and American oak. The richest of the four — golden apple, pear and brioche.

Burgundy or California?
Burgundy
Limestone soils, cooler sites, restrained oak. Leaner, higher in acid, more citrus and stone than tropical fruit.
California
Warmer sun, riper fruit, generous barrel ageing. Fuller-bodied, lower in acid, with vanilla and toast from the wood.
Oak changes everything
Barrels add vanilla, toast and texture. Stainless steel keeps the fruit clean and the acid bright. Same grape, two results.
Try them together
Open one Burgundy and the Californian side by side. Nothing explains Chardonnay faster.
Best Enjoyed
10–12°C
Not fridge-cold. Over-chilling flattens Chardonnay.
In a white wine glass
A wide bowl, not a narrow flute-shaped one.
With roast chicken
The classic. Also salmon, crab and soft cheeses.
With caviar
The leaner Burgundies, cold, with blinis.

Questions
How many bottles are in the case?
Twelve 75cl bottles — four different Chardonnays, three bottles of each, nine litres in total.
Which wines are included?
Sylvain Bzikot Bourgogne Chardonnay, Nuiton-Beaunoy Bourgogne Chardonnay Réserve, Cave de Lugny Bourgogne Chardonnay Eugène Blanc 2023 and Firestone Vineyard Private Reserve Chardonnay 2022. The full list is above, and each one links to its own page if you would rather buy a single bottle.
Is the case cheaper than buying the bottles separately?
Yes. The case works out at nearly 10% less than buying the same twelve bottles individually.
Are they all the same style?
No, and that is the point. The three Burgundies are leaner and more mineral; the Californian is riper and barrel-aged. Opening them side by side is the quickest lesson in what Chardonnay can do.
Is Chardonnay always oaky?
No. Oak is a cellar decision, not a property of the grape. Most Burgundy at this level sees little or no new oak and tastes of citrus and orchard fruit; the buttery style comes from barrel ageing and malolactic fermentation.
Can the case be split or given as a gift?
It ships as one twelve-bottle case. Gift packaging and a handwritten message can be added at checkout.
How long will they keep?
All four are made to be drunk young and fresh. Keep them somewhere cool and dark and enjoy them within a couple of years.
