Late Bottled Vintage was Taylor’s invention. It was launched in 1970 by the firm’s chairman Alistair Robertson, and more than half a century later it remains the benchmark against which every other LBV is judged.
The wine is matured in wood for four to six years before bottling, which does two things: it softens the tannins and it settles the sediment. That means it is ready to pour the moment it is opened — no decanting, no standing the bottle upright for a day. Vintage Port character with none of the ceremony, and here in a generous one-litre bottle.
Serve with: Stilton and hard cheeses, chocolate desserts, or simply after dinner. Serve lightly cool, around 16°C.

Vintage Port is bottled after about two years and matures in bottle, throwing sediment and needing decanting. LBV spends four to six years in wood first, so it is ready to drink and needs no decanting.
Considerably longer than a table wine — several weeks in the fridge with the cork in. It is fortified, so it is far more stable.
A third more than a standard 75cl. Useful given how well it keeps once opened.
