Château Bonalgue 2020 — plum, truffle and silky Merlot charm from the Bourotte family’s Pomerol estate.
Château Bonalgue belongs to the Bourotte family, who also run the acclaimed Clos du Clocher, and the estate has a long record of turning Pomerol’s clay soils into charming, Merlot-dominant wines. The 2020 blends Merlot with Cabernet Franc, aged in oak barrels.
It opens with ripe plum, oak and a touch of truffle — that earthy Pomerol accent — then delivers a silky, smooth palate of black cherry and fresh red fruit with subtle spice. Balanced enough to enjoy tonight, structured enough to cellar: the estate suggests it can mature for ten to fifteen years.
Serve with: roast beef, roasted lamb, grilled duck, hearty stews, mushroom dishes, creamy cheeses or charcuterie.
