Roggenaer is rye genever, and this is the most considered version of it. It comes from Van Wees at distillery De Ooievaar in Amsterdam — established in 1782, and among the last traditional genever distilleries still operating in the city. The knowledge behind it has been passed quietly through generations rather than written down and marketed.
The foundation is rye, which gives the spirit its spice and its backbone, and everything is made from pure, natural raw materials. Fifteen years of maturation does the rest. What emerges has genuine depth and character — a spirit that rewards slow drinking and repays attention.
Serve with: nothing. Neat, in a tulip glass, at cellar temperature — the traditional Dutch way, with a beer alongside if you like.
