Grain whisky rarely gets to be the main event. Nikka Coffey Grain makes the case that it should. Distilled primarily from corn in a continuous Coffey still and matured in old American oak casks, it delivers a style of whisky that has no real European equivalent — sweet, tropical and disarmingly drinkable. Mango, papaya, coconut and candied orange peel over a toffee base. Complexity that doesn’t announce itself.
Nose: Tropical fruit, vanilla, coconut and candied orange peel.
Palate: Sweet and mellow with melon, peach, grapefruit and toffee popcorn.
Finish: Rich oak and marmalade with a clean, fresh close.
45% ABV. Japanese grain whisky.
