The Rum

Ambassador sits at the pinnacle of the Diplomático range: a single traditional pot still rum crafted by award-winning Master Blender Tito Cordero. Pot still distillation alone gives it a weight and density that blended rums rarely reach.

It is matured in ex-bourbon barrels and then given an extended finish in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks — PX being the richest, sweetest, darkest of the sherry styles. That finish is what makes this rum what it is: opulent, velvety and deeply sticky, at a serious 47% ABV.

Tasting Notes

NoseRich raisins, stewed apricots and soft brown sugar, with woody tannins reminiscent of a recently emptied cigar box.

PalateFull-bodied and sticky — raisins, cinnamon butter, caramelised banana, toffee, dried fig, molasses, toasted nuts, tobacco leaf and warm baking spices.

FinishLong and lingering, with liquorice root, dark sugars and a touch of light sugar syrup for balance.

Serve with: a large ice cube, or nothing. This is a rum for the end of the evening.

What does the PX finish do?

Pedro Ximénez is the richest sherry style there is. Finishing in those casks layers dried fruit, molasses and a velvety sweetness over the pot still rum underneath.

Should I mix it?

It would be a shame to. At this level, and at 47% ABV, Ambassador is built for sipping.

How does it differ from the rest of the range?

It is single pot still rather than a blend, higher in strength, and the only expression with the extended PX finish — considerably richer and more concentrated than anything below it.
