Luxembourg is not the first place most people think of for sparkling wine, which is precisely why Bernard-Massard’s Millésimé Brut is worth knowing. It is produced only in exceptional vintages, from Moselle Valley vineyards, and it is a benchmark for what the country’s traditional-method winemaking can do.
The blend is a precise pairing of Pinot Blanc and Riesling, aged for a minimum of three years before release — longer than many Champagnes are required to spend. The estate farms sustainably and seals the bottles with natural cork. Decanter awarded it 95 points, and it was named Best Central & Eastern European Sparkling Wine 2017.
Serve with: shellfish, roast poultry, or as a serious aperitif. Serve at 8–10°C — a little warmer than everyday fizz, so the pastry notes show.
