      The Wine

      Grand-Puy-Lacoste lies west of Pauillac on deep, coarse gravel-limestone soils that drain freely and hold heat — ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines average 38 years old, and the estate has a long reputation for making the most classical, least fashionable wine in the appellation, which is exactly why people collect it.

      The 2021 is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, aged 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 75% new. It is a firm, traditional style with superb typicity: straight-laced now, and built to soften and gain complexity over a long life. Parker 94, Jane Anson 93.

      Tasting Notes

      NoseRipe plum, cassis and blackcurrant with cocoa bean, liquorice, graphite and subtle cedar.
      PalateFocused and straight-laced — firm yet finely grained tannins over bright acidity, with dark fruit, spice and mineral notes.
