Made by the family behind Château L'Église-Clinet, one of Pomerol's great names, on limestone a few miles east of Saint-Émilion. Routinely called one of Bordeaux's best-value reds, and it is.
Castillon sits directly east of Saint-Émilion on the same band of limestone, which is the reason its best wines taste the way they do. What it lacks is the name — and that gap between quality and reputation is where the value lives. The Durantou family bought Montlandrie in 2009, bringing with them everything learned at Château L'Église-Clinet in Pomerol.
The 2022 is 75% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 50% new French oak. Critics found copious black fruit, vanilla, violet and dark chocolate, with building, finely judged tannins. In a landmark Bordeaux vintage it scored 95 from James Suckling and 94 from both Jeb Dunnuck and Antonio Galloni — at a fraction of the price those numbers usually command.
Directly east of Saint-Émilion, on the same limestone plateau. The soils are comparable; the prices are not.
