Château Latour 2016 — 100 points from Neal Martin, who ranked it alongside 1982 and 2010. Almost entirely L’Enclos fruit.
Château Latour is a Pauillac First Growth and the Grand Vin is drawn almost exclusively from L’Enclos, the historic walled vineyard that sits closest to the Gironde. That single-site concentration is the source of Latour’s reputation for power held in perfect check.
The 2016 is 92.9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.1% Merlot — an unusually Cabernet-dominant blend even by Latour’s standards — aged 18 to 20 months in 100% new French oak. Neal Martin awarded it a perfect 100 points, calling it “magnificent” and comparing it to the legendary 1982 and 2010. It is one of the greatest modern vintages the estate has produced.
Serve with: grilled or roasted red meats, truffle or mushroom sauces, or hard mature cheeses such as aged Cheddar or Comté. Drink 2025–2060 and beyond.

The historic walled vineyard immediately around the château, closest to the Gironde. Its deep gravel and proximity to the river are what give Latour its consistency and power.
From 2025 with a long decant, but the window runs to 2060 and beyond. A wine of this structure gains for decades.
Neal Martin is among the most respected critics working in Bordeaux, and he reserves perfect scores. Placing this beside 1982 and 2010 puts it in the estate’s highest tier.
