      The Wine

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande traces its story to the seventeenth century and the great Pichon estate; since 2007 it has been owned by the Rouzaud family. This is the estate’s grand vin, and its style is a Pauillac signature — power dressed in elegance.

The 2021 blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged in new French oak barrels. Full-bodied and structured, with a core of ripe dark fruit held by firm yet silky tannins, threads of spice and minerality, and a long, lingering finish. It drinks with a decant now, but this is a wine built to age — expect more complexity with every year in the cellar.

      Questions

      Drink now or cellar?

Both are rewarding. Decant for two hours if opening young; otherwise it will develop in the cellar for many years.

How does this differ from Réserve de la Comtesse?

This is the estate’s grand vin — the principal wine; the Réserve is its more approachable second wine.

What temperature should I serve it at?

16–18°C. Cool room temperature keeps the aromatics precise.
