Château Le Boscq has a history reaching back to the eighteenth century and holds Cru Bourgeois status in Saint-Estèphe, the northernmost of the great Médoc communes and home to some of Bordeaux’s most powerful, age-worthy reds. The 2018 is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant (63%) with Merlot (33%) and Petit Verdot (4%), aged in oak barrels.
It leads with a burst of black fruit and follows with firm but well-integrated tannins — the Cabernet structure that gives Saint-Estèphe its reputation for ageing. Around the fruit sit violet, spice, leather and a touch of vanilla. A serious little bottle for a steak night for two.
Serve with: coq au vin, beef bourguignon, duck confit, grilled steak, hearty pasta, or aged Gouda.
