Meursault by Joseph Drouhin — ripe pear, buttered toast and hazelnut, in the ideal half-bottle format.
Meursault is the Côte de Beaune village that made rich, golden white Burgundy famous, and Joseph Drouhin is one of the region’s most established houses. This 2018 is 100% Chardonnay, aged in oak barrels in the traditional Meursault manner.
The result is medium to full-bodied and unmistakably Meursault: ripe orchard fruit, a creamy, almost buttery texture from barrel ageing, and toasted nut notes underneath. Crisp acidity keeps the whole thing lifted rather than heavy, and the finish runs on. The half bottle means you can open serious white Burgundy for a single course without committing to 75cl.
Serve with: pan-seared scallops, grilled lobster, roast chicken, chicken in a mushroom cream sauce, or Brie and Camembert.

Barrel ageing and the village’s soils give Meursault a richer, creamier, more nutty style than the leaner whites of Chablis.
10–12°C. Serving it too cold mutes the toasted, nutty character that makes it worth drinking.
