    Hayman's Sloe Gin 70cl

    4.8 ★ · 223 Google Reviews
    • English Sloe Gin · Five Generations · Autumn Hedgerow

Real sloe gin, made the slow way: wild sloe berries steeped in Hayman's own London Dry for three to four months, with nothing rushed and no shortcuts. Deep ruby in the glass, tasting of damson, marzipan and hedgerow — the bottle that belongs in a coat pocket from September onwards.

      The Story of the House
      Five Generations of English Gin
      1863
James Burrough begins distilling in London. The family has been making English gin, without a break, ever since.
      The Base
Hayman's own London Dry — a proper juniper-led gin rather than a neutral spirit bought in to be sweetened.
      The Berries
Wild sloes, the fruit of the blackthorn, picked after the first cold snap when the skins have softened.
      Three Months
A slow cold steep, turned by hand, until the gin runs deep ruby and the almond note comes through from the stones.

      Questions

      What actually is a sloe?
The fruit of the blackthorn — a small, intensely sharp wild plum that grows in British hedgerows. Raw it is almost inedible. Steeped in gin with sugar for a few months it becomes something else entirely: deep, fruity and faintly almond-scented from the stones.
      Is sloe gin still gin?
It is a gin liqueur — real gin with real fruit steeped in it, bottled at a lower strength. What separates the good from the poor is whether the maker used actual sloes and a proper gin base, or flavouring and neutral spirit. This is the former.
When is the right time to drink it?
Traditionally from the first cold weather onwards — shooting season, bonfire night, cold walks, Christmas. It is the one bottle that genuinely tastes better outdoors in October than indoors in June.
Who is this a good gift for?
Anyone who likes the outdoors, the gin drinker who has run out of new London Drys to try, and the host heading into autumn. At 26% it is gentle enough to be poured generously, which is rather the point.
Can you deliver it directly to the person I'm gifting?
Yes — enter their address at checkout and add your message. In London it can be at their door within 30–45 minutes, any hour of the day. The recipient must be 18+ with ID for our Challenge 21 check.
