Why is the bottle textured like that?
Because of the island's outline. Cubans have long called their country the Isla del Cocodrilo — the Isle of the Crocodile — and the embossed glass is a tribute to it. It is one of the few bottles people genuinely keep on display afterwards.
How does Cuban rum differ from Jamaican?
Cuban rum is lighter, drier and more elegant — built on smoothness and balance rather than the big estery fruit of Jamaica. If Jamaican rum shouts, Cuban rum speaks quietly. Eminente sits at the richer, more mature end of that Cuban style.
Is it sweetened?
It is made in the traditional Cuban ron style, where the sweetness you taste comes from long ageing in white oak rather than heavy additions. The result is rounded but dry, with cocoa and coffee rather than syrup.
