The Wine
Caymus Vineyards was founded in Rutherford in 1972 by Chuck Wagner with his parents, Lorna and Charlie Sr., and the family has made Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon every year since. Current releases are known for their ripe, generous style; a 1995 bottle shows what that style becomes with around three decades of age.
Old Napa Cabernet like this is a different wine from a young release: the primary fruit gives way to dried fruit, cedar and savoury notes, and the tannins soften. It's a bottle for a birth-year gift, an anniversary, or anyone curious how Caymus ages.

Questions
Is a 1995 Caymus still good to drink?
Mature Napa Cabernet can drink well at this age, but every old bottle is individual, since its condition depends on how it has been stored. Expect a softer, more savoury wine than a current release.
How should I serve it?
Stand the bottle upright for a day so the sediment settles, then open it carefully (old corks can be fragile) and decant gently off the sediment shortly before serving. Serve at 16–18°C.
Is it a good gift?
Yes. A 1995 vintage makes a memorable birth-year or anniversary present for a wine lover.
