Château Marquis d’Alesme is one of the oldest estates in Margaux, with vines on the property dating back to 1616, and was classified among the fourteen Third Growths in 1855. It is a compact 16-hectare vineyard on classic Margaux gravelly soils, planted 45% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot — an unusually high proportion of the two minor varieties, which is part of its signature.
The 2019 was made under technical director Marjolaine de Coninck and owner Nathalie Perrodo, and it shows the estate at full stretch: exceptional structure alongside real finesse. Jane Anson awarded it 95 points, praising its “real grip, length and balance”.

A quarter of the vineyard is planted to those two varieties, which is high for the Médoc. Cabernet Franc brings the floral, perfumed character; Petit Verdot adds structure and colour.
