If you have never drunk genever, this is where to begin. Van Wees Loyaal Very Old Genever comes from distillery De Ooievaar — established in 1782, and among the last traditional genever distilleries operating in Amsterdam. It is one of the city’s most storied drinking addresses.
It is made from pure, natural raw materials, using recipes built on fruits, flowers, plants, roots and seeds, and matured for five years. That is long enough to lend real warmth and character without the weight of the older bottlings — approachable, but with the full depth of Dutch distilling tradition behind it.
Serve with: nothing at all — neat, in a tulip glass, at cellar temperature. Traditionally taken alongside a beer, which is a habit worth adopting.
