Ukiyo Japanese Blossom is distilled in small batches in Japan, and it is built around one idea: capturing the cherry blossom in spring. Traditional gin botanicals — juniper berries, coriander and fresh citrus fruits — form the structure, and the cherry blossom sits over the top as an ethereal floral lift.
What makes it work is restraint. Floral gins can tip into perfume very easily; this one keeps the juniper backbone intact and lets the blossom suggest itself rather than shout. The bottle, decorated with cherry blossom artwork, is handsome enough that it tends to get given as a gift as often as it gets drunk.
Serve with: a light tonic in a classic G&T, or in an elegant Martini or sparkling gimlet. Over ice on its own also shows it well.
