      Because it includes non-traditional grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc alongside Sangiovese, Italian wine law at the time didn't allow it to carry the Chianti Classico name — so it was released under the simpler Toscana designation instead, a workaround that effectively created a new category of Italian wine.
