The 2001 is a well-regarded Margaux vintage known for ageing gracefully, and this blend — 82% Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc — has had well over two decades to settle. Expect flowers, crème de cassis, blackberry and cedar on the nose, then a medium to full-bodied palate of dark fruit compote, cocoa butter, earth, leather and tobacco over fine-grained tannins that have long since softened. Elegant, structured, and very long.
Serve with: roast lamb, venison, ribeye steak, braised short ribs, hearty stews, or dishes with truffle or mushroom sauce.
