Created in 1874 and named for King Louis XIII of France, this is the cognac against which all others are measured. Each decanter blends eaux-de-vie matured in ancient Limousin oak casks — a process spanning generations, so that the cellar master who begins a blend rarely sees it finished.
That patience is what you taste. Medium-bodied with a smooth, silky texture, it layers dried plum and fig over honey, spice and floral nuance; with air, cigar box, candied orange peel and a whisper of rose emerge. The presentation — a crystal decanter — is as considered as the spirit inside.
