      The Cognac

Maison Courvoisier has been making cognac since 1828. This limited edition takes a blend of eaux-de-vie from different crus and matures it in Mizunara oak — the rare Japanese species long treasured by whisky makers for the distinctive aromatics it gives, and notoriously difficult to work into casks.

The result is a genuine hybrid. The familiar cognac signature is all there — toasted oak, vanilla, honey — but woven through it are the Mizunara markers: coconut, sandalwood and exotic flowers, with citrus and candied orange peel lifting the whole thing. Bottled at 48%, it has more grip and projection than a standard cognac, and the finish runs long with a subtle sweetness.

      Questions

      What is Mizunara oak?

A Japanese oak species prized in whisky making for its sandalwood, coconut and incense aromatics. It is scarce, slow-growing and difficult to coopers, which makes casks made from it genuinely rare.

Why is it bottled at 48%?

The higher strength carries the Mizunara aromatics further and gives the spirit more presence than a standard 40% cognac.

      How should I serve it?

Neat in a tulip glass, at room temperature. A drop of water can open the floral notes if you find the strength assertive.
