Selección de Familia is Diplomático’s blend of its most distinctive family reserves, composed by the distillery’s Maestros Roneros. The backbone is 90% pot still rum — the heavier, more characterful style — with small portions of Barbet and batch kettle spirits added for lift and definition.
It is aged up to twelve years across three cask types: American white oak, ex-bourbon and ex-sherry. Each contributes something different, and the result at 43% ABV is a dark amber rum with genuine multidimensionality — refined and smooth, but with far more going on than the smoothness alone suggests.
Serve with: nothing at all, or a single large ice cube. It also holds its own in a premium cocktail.

Pot still distillation retains more of the raw spirit’s character than column distillation. At 90% pot still, this has noticeably more weight and texture than lighter, column-led rums.
Selección de Familia is drier and more layered, at higher strength, with the pot still character front and centre. Reserva Exclusiva is the rounder, sweeter, more immediately approachable bottling.
Neat is where it shines. If you do mix it, use it somewhere the rum leads — an Old Fashioned rather than a long drink.
